Liang Xu is a bilingual cinematographer based in Perth, Australia.

With a background in visual art and contemporary art, he studied
Digital Media Art at Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts before continuing
film studies in Australia through TAFE and cinematography study at
the Western Australian Screen Academy at ECU.

His practice is influenced by a painterly sensibility, with a strong
focus on composition, light, colour, and the internal structure of
the frame. He approaches cinematography with a restrained and
attentive visual language. His experience in editing and art
direction has shaped a sensitive and restrained visual approach
that seeks emotional tension, stillness, and rhythm within
narrative storytelling.

His first feature film as Director of Photography ‘Take Her Name’ will be released in cinemas later 2026.
